Commitment to the Future – Third Girls’ Day at TUXEDO - TUXEDO Computers

TUXEDO has been participating in the Girls’ Day – Future Prospects for Girls initiative for three years. This year, the concept was further refined, as the IT industry continues to evolve rapidly. In the practical programming section, the focus was once again on Python and it’s Turtle module. Python is particularly popular because it is easy to learn and can be used in a wide range of projects, from beginner to professional level.

Early Career Orientation in Focus

„We also made a conscious decision to inspire girls aged 14 to 16 to explore opportunities at our company, as this is the age when career orientation and the search for apprenticeships typically begin. If someone takes part in our Girls’ Day and is interested in a career in IT, initial contacts can be established right away“, explains Maximilian Arnold, Technical Lead in QA and Installation.

At 08:00, five participants arrived at TUXEDO. The day began with introductions and a shared breakfast. Afterwards, Annika Litzel and Luise Domnick from the marketing team guided the group through the offices, offering insights into the company’s history, fields of activity, and culture. This helped create an open exchange and a welcoming atmosphere early on.

Hands-on: Understanding Hardware

Maximilian Arnold and Frederik Holfeld, together with colleagues, led the first practical session and enabled the participants to get hands-on experience. They disassembled and reassembled laptops as well as a desktop PC, while the instructors provided clear explanations of device structures and practical technical guidance. In this way, the participants gained a fundamental understanding of how modern computer systems work.

Hands-on: First Steps in Programming

After a short break, the focus shifted from hardware to software. Using the Turtle module, the girls gained their first programming experience and created their own drawings, such as a flower. To conclude, the Hilbert curve was introduced, a mathematical curve that, as the limit of polygonal lines, completely fills the area of a square.

At around 13:00, the Girls’ Day came to an end with small farewell gifts including Linux and TUXEDO goodies. The day remains in everyone’s memory as both inspiring and diverse.
