The best processor ever on a TUXEDO: Even though the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX is no brand-new CPU, the 32-thread processor’s combination of performance and efficiency is not only on par with the fastest high-end CPUs currently available from Apple and Intel, but often even better.

The Ryzen 9 7945HX offers not only excellent single-core and multicore performance, but also does so by consuming less power than the competition for unrivalled energy efficiency.

This not only means that Intel’s flagship model, the Core i9–14900HX, requires over 70% more power for the same multi-core performance, but also that even Apple’s fastest mobile CPU, the M3 Max, gets knocked off the efficiency throne by the Ryzen 9 7945HX with up to 8 % higher performance-per-watt and even 30 % higher performance in all-core render workloads.

With an overall height of just under 2.9 cm and a weight of 2.8 kg, the Linux desktop replacement is not designed to be carried around all the time, but nevertheless allows comfortable transportation over short to medium distances with ease.

In return, users are rewarded with a more capable cooling system that allows either higher performance or quieter fan noise than on many thin-and-light competitors, a high-end CPU with desktop DNA, a large 17.3-inch monitor for getting your work done comfortably without the need for external screens, and a versatile ports selection that leaves nothing to be desired.

For high frame rates in games and GPU acceleration in productive software, the Gemini 17 - Gen3 is powered by NVIDIA graphics processing units in the form of the GeForce RTX 4060 or RTX 4070, which are both driven in their highest allowed TGP performance class of 115 watts.

In order to let games really shine and to provide a lot of screen space for work, the Gemini 17 is equipped with a large 17.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels - the optimal balance of sharpness and GPU render costs - and FreeSync for buttery smooth animations at up to 165 Hz.

The fully covered DCI-P3 color space (around 25 % larger than the usual sRGB color space) ensures an even more immersive gaming and multimedia experience and also qualifies the Gemini 17 for (semi-)professional photo editing.

RAM Giant with up to 96 GB, Mini DisplayPort and 2x USB-C

For a desktop replacement laptop, which is intended to replace a stand-alone PC at home, extended memory capacity and a wide range of connections are essential.

The Gemini 17 exceeds these requirements with up to 96 GB DDR5–5200 RAM, while two M.2 SSD slots can be configured with up to 8 terabytes for permanent data storage.

The ports selection hardly leaves anything to be desired: 2x DisplayPort 1.4 (1x via USB-C 3.2 Gen2, 1x Mini DisplayPort) and HDMI 2.1 allow to connect up to 3 external monitors and make the Gemini 17 ready for Virtual Reality headsets. Together with the notebook’s internal display, 4 screens can be used simultaneously.

While the USB-C port is connected to the Ryzen 9 7945HX’s power-saving iGPU, the Mini DisplayPort and HDMI 2.1 are driven by the NVIDIA graphics for best possible performance for gaming or Virtual Reality (VR) headsets.

Besides a second USB-C port, which allows charging the laptop via a handy 100 watts power supply, also 2x USB-A and one RJ45 LAN port are available for data exchange, while the 2-in-1 headphone microphone port and the obligatory Kensington Lock conclude the connectivity setup.

Like all TUXEDO notebooks, the Gemini 17 - Gen3 - AMD ships with full Linux support, including Linux-trained customer support, pre-installation of all drivers, in-house developed software, cloud-based services and in-house Linux distribution TUXEDO OS (alternatively: Ubuntu or Kubuntu) with optional full disk encryption and on request also with Windows 11.

The base configuration with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, 2x 8 GB DDR5–5200 RAM, a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD and TUXEDO OS starts at 1699 EUR (incl. tax for German customers only) and around 1427 EUR for customers outside Europe (excl. tax).
