I have a problem with the sound output on external devices

Despite the definition of the audio jack or HDMI as the sound output device (in the audio manager of the system), the internal analog audio output (internal speakers) is stored by default for all playback on some systems. Keyword here: "Playback".
All our pre-installations should have the package "pavucontrol" installed. You can start it e.g. via the terminal by entering "pavucontrol".
Otherwise, you can easily install pavucontrol using the console:

sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

Among other things, the output channel for a currently running playback can be changed in the program.
If you now plug in the HDMI/Audio device and start a playback (e.g. a certain program like a game or a media player) for the first time, you can see it in pavucontrol in the "Playback" tab.
A selection box for the output channel can also be found here. This should currently contain "Internal Analog Stereo" (or something similar). This selection must then be set once to "HDMI Digital Output" (or similar) in order to set the playback to an HDMI device.
If the program is running again later and the HDMI is plugged in, the setting should be this way automatically (the setting is "memorized").
The setting can only be made while playback is in progress. For playback in the browser, for example, the stream must already be running.
Initially the playback must be set to HDMI for each application, but then it should work without any further configuration.

In case of further problems, you can also check under "Configuration" and "Output device" whether the HDMI output is selected as device.

The same applies to output via a headset, for example, which is connected to the headphone socket ("jack") or via USB.
Here, too, the corresponding device must be pre-defined under "Configuration" and "Output device", so that it can then be set under "Playback" for the individual streams/programs/processes.
