Using covers for webcams on TUXEDO notebooks

We are often asked whether it is advisable to cover the webcam on laptops to protect privacy from potential spying attempts.

We strongly advise against attaching a webcam cover to your TUXEDO notebook. Improper attachment can lead to damage to the display, especially during transport when the laptop is closed. Such damages are not covered by our warranty.

On most of our notebooks, you can disable the webcam directly in the BIOS to effectively safeguard your privacy.

Another advantage of TUXEDO OS is that it inherently presents fewer risks from malware that could misuse your webcam. Compared to other operating systems, Linux is significantly less susceptible to viruses and malicious software. Since TUXEDO OS is built on an open and transparent codebase, you maintain full control over all programs running on your system. This ensures that no unauthorized application can access your webcam. Additionally, you benefit from regular security updates and strict management of system permissions, which provide extra protection.
