BIOS settings for dual boot with Windows

After a standard installation it may happen that dual boot is not possible with other operating systems. The reason for this is that Windows always places itself at the top of the boot sequence when installing on NVMe SSDs, so Linux does not even have the possibility to boot. The otherwise usually important order of installation is irrelevant. Even setting the regular boot order does not help here. Only the BIOS setting UEFI NVME Drive BBS Priorities leads to the correct, desired order of the operating systems and the automatic change to GRUB (the Linux boot loader) from where the user can start both installed systems.

Solution

  1. Immediately after switching on the device, press the corresponding F key until you reach the BIOS. Usually this is F2, on some devices also Del.
  2. Use the arrow keys to switch to the Boot tab:

  3. There select the point UEFI NVME Drive BBS Priorities:
  4. In the following menu [Windows Boot Manager] must be set as Boot Option #2 respectively [ubuntu] on Boot Option #1:

  5. Press F4 to save everything and exit the BIOS. Your TUXEDO Book now reboots and the dual boot works as desired.
