Your Role at TUXEDO
As a Firmware Developer for Coreboot, you will strengthen our Development team in Augsburg with your expertise in open-source firmware solutions. You will support our customers by porting Coreboot to modern hardware developed by us, and thus form an important building block within digital sovereignty.
In a company culture based on collaboration and knowledge sharing, you are responsible for applying your skills to ensure our customers’ satisfaction. You’ll use your passion for Linux and open source, combined with your solution- and user-oriented thinking, exactly where it matters most. Your broad experience with Linux and open source topics rounds out your profile.
Key Responsibilities
Your work will cover various exciting areas. The core tasks include:
Porting existing open-source firmware to different hardware platforms
You will work with established open-source firmware projects like Coreboot, LinuxBoot, or U-Boot. You will adapt the software specifically to meet the requirements of our customers and their hardware environments.
Development and adaptation of firmware based on open-source projects
The goal is to bring modern open-source firmware to new or proprietary systems. This requires a deep understanding of the respective hardware architecture and its interfaces.
Implementation of new features in existing firmware projects
You will independently develop new features to expand and improve the functionality of our projects. In doing so, you’ll work closely with internal teams and the open-source community.
Active contribution to and promotion of the open-source community
Your work contributes not only to technical progress but also to the visibility and quality of open-source projects. You share knowledge, provide feedback, and participate in discussions and code reviews.
Support for upstreaming code back to the community
We value transparent and sustainable development contributions to official projects. You will help ensure our changes are submitted according to community guidelines and maintained long-term.
Your Profile
As a provider of highly flexible and customizable products, TUXEDO Computers places great importance on these qualities. Specific training, certificates, or degrees can be beneficial in your daily work but are not strict requirements. Ideally, you bring with you:
Education or prior experience
Ideally, you have completed training in computer science, obtained a university degree, or possess a comparable qualification.
Experience with Coreboot, TianoCore, or U-Boot
You understand the specific characteristics of these firmware platforms and know how to adapt them for particular hardware. Your expertise in bootloaders and system initialization enables efficient and stable development close to the hardware.
Enthusiasm for low-level software development
You care about our products and our customers. You enjoy understanding and influencing systems at the lowest level and are not afraid of complex technical challenges.
Solid understanding of the C programming language
You don’t just write functional code—you also care about efficiency and maintainability. You're confident in using memory management, pointers, and bit operations.
Hardware specifications are part of your daily routine
You are comfortable reading technical documentation and can accurately extract relevant information. You use this knowledge to implement precise drivers and firmware.
Passion for open-source projects and active contribution
You naturally appreciate the benefits of open software—from transparency to collaboration with an engaged community. Peer-to-peer exchange and the opportunity to share knowledge motivate you.
