EcurieAix of RWTH Aachen presents vehicle of the new season

Finally, the time had come: After a long planning and manufacturing period, the 80 team members of the EcurieAix of RWTH Aachen University were able to present their new vehicle for the current Formula Student season on June 13, 2022. Sponsors, partners as well as family and friends of EcurieAix were invited to the official rollout in the auditorium of RWTH Aachen University. TUXEDO Computers was also on site with 5 employees.

Make one out of two

After a small opening with sparkling wine and orange juice, the presentation began with a report on which innovations and changes have been implemented for the current season. The respective team members summarized the individual areas briefly and clearly. The presentations were lightened up by small videos in which the team members of EcurieAix were interviewed and reported about the team as well as the work on a Formula Student vehicle.

The first feature was the merging of the formerly two vehicles into one overall electric vehicle that can also be operated autonomously. Furthermore, the team could boast of having saved about 12 kg in weight, so that the vehicle now weighs just under 159 kg.

The racing car incorporates the mainboard of a TUXEDO Stellaris 15 with an AMD Ryzen 5900HX CPU as well as an NVIDIA RTX 3080 graphics card and the operating system Ubuntu 20.04 as its bumping heart. The mainboard is connected to both the car's camera, which is needed for autonomous driving, and the entire electronics of the vehicle. The calculations of the course are done by the NVIDIA graphics card. The mainboard was installed in such a way that additional cooling options could be added and the connections were still waterproof. The switch from the previous CarPC to the Stellaris alone resulted in a weight reduction from 2.7 kg to just 700 g - a reduction to just a quarter of the original weight.

TUXEDO Computers, as a sponsor, was pleased with the positive results the team was able to communicate and with the placement of the company logo on the front of the monocoque as well as on the new team wear.

At the end of the report, the new vehicle was unveiled and the name was announced. Full of joy and pride, the EcurieAix team was able to see Aileen fully assembled for the first time. The highlight of the vehicle presentation was that the team itself did not know what the vehicle would be called until the rollout, except for the board and the team management. Consequently, the surprise was great for everyone involved.

Afterwards, the guests at the event were also able to inspect the vehicle and marvel at it up close.

Races starting in July in Austria, Hungary and Germany

The races will start at the end of July. First it's off to Spielberg to compete with other teams in the Electric class at Formula Student Austria. Then it goes on to Budapest to compete in the autonomous class at the FSEast and finally to Formula Student Germany. The goal of the team is of course to win and to top the already best performances in the career of the EcurieAix of the RWTH Aachen.
