Ultrabook Workstation with WQHD Display, 91 Wh Battery and Ryzen 7 - TUXEDO Computers

With the long-awaited successor, TUXEDO takes its own route and commits actively to community and tester feedback:

The TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 therefore comes - exclusively(!) - with a performance-optimized AMD Ryzen 7 5700U-35W, an - in this performance class - above-average dual fan cooling solution as well as a WQHD display with 2560x1440 pixels and 165 Hz refresh rate!

Customer feedback was listened to with further detail improvements, while the 17 mm thin and 1.5 kg light magnesium chassis and the huge 91 Wh battery are carried over from the predecessor.

Exclusive custom design for TUXEDO Computers

TUXEDO Computers works with barebone manufacturers for its Linux notebooks and PCs, optimizing them to run flawlessly with Linux through driver and firmware adaptions, extensive "reverse engineering" and testing, as well as in-house software development, cloud services and Linux customer support.

However, TUXEDO also strives for individual solutions in terms of customer feedback when it comes to hardware: Thus, TUXEDO rejected the original device with Full HD display, AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with only 15 watts TDP and single-fan-single-heatpipe cooling system and insisted on a custom build with dual fan cooling, a performance increase of the 5700U to 35 watts and the WQHD display instead in return for bearing conversion costs and accepting higher minimum order quanities.

Faster than specified by AMD: Ryzen 7 5700U-35W

To pick up power-users and fans of the Pulse 15 - Gen1 and provide the optimal balance of performance and efficiency, TUXEDO pushes the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U well above the manufacturer's official specification. While AMD officially specifies the 8-core processor with only 10 to 25 watts, TUXEDO pushes the power up to a sustained 35 watts (PL1) to offer demanding users very strong CPU performance with relatively low energy consumption.

The integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 which is responsible for graphics and image output offers a slightly increased graphics performance thanks to 8 graphics cores @ max. 1900 MHz) (Pulse 15 - Gen1: 7 graphics cores | max. 1600 MHz).

Quiet and cool thanks to dual fan cooling

In order to listen to the frequent criticism from testers and customers about loud fan noise on powerful devices, TUXEDO explicitly went for an - in this performance class - above-average dual fan cooling solution in the Pulse 15 - Gen2.

While almost all competitors with U-processors cut costs on cooling with only one fan and a single heatpipe, which leads to reduced performance or higher noise levels and temperatures under load, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 is exclusively equipped with 2 fans and 2 heat pipes!

The advantage? Cool surface temperatures and at the same time a pleasantly discreet fan noise even under full load without performance throttling, as in many competing models with weaker 1-fan cooling.

Magnesium chassis and WQHD display

Weighing in at just 1.5 kg and with dimensions of 356.4 x 233.73 x 16.8 mm, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 is the ideal mobile computer for users who travel a lot and transport their thin powerhouse very frequently.

The very lightweight and compact design is due to the magnesium case, which gives the powerful AMD-only Linux notebook an elegant appearance, while the slightly rough, metallic feel gives it a solid touch.

The new WQHD panel - also installed exclusively for us - takes the display quality to the next level: 2560 x 1440 pixels promise a razor-sharp image, while the 165 Hz ensure buttery-smooth movements and the brightness of 350 cd/m2 even allows working outdoors.

91 Wh battery and Full-Featured-USB-C

Besides the magnesium chassis, the Pulse 15 - Gen2 also adopts the large 91-Wh battery for runtimes of now up to 18 hours (everyday use with medium brightness ~ 10 hours). Thanks to the more power-saving processor, an even smaller 65-Watt power supply (10.5 x 4.5 x 3.0 cm | 210 g) is now used. Alternatively, the notebook can also be charged via USB-C Power Delivery DC-In (20 V / 3.25 A).

One feature missed by many customers of the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen1 was DisplayPort 1.4 via USB-C, which is now on board in Generation 2. Together with HDMI 2.0 the Pulse 15 - Gen2 allows connecting up to 3 external monitors (via MST adapter).

3x USB-A ports (2x USB 3.2 Gen2, 1x USB 2.0), LAN RJ45, a Micro SD card reapder and each 2x SO-DIMM slots for up to 64 GB DDR4 RAM and M.2 NVMe slots round off the connection equipment.

Like all TUXEDO computers, the Pulse 15 - Gen2 is also optimized on the driver and firmware side and comes pre-installed with Linux and offers an extensive ecosystem, service and customer support around the free operating system.

The base configuration with the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U-35W, WQHD IPS display, 1x 8 GB Samsung 3200 MHz DDR 4 RAM, a 250 GB NVMe SSD and pre-installed with TUXEDO_OS 22.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Kubuntu 22.04 LTS or Ubuntu Budgie 22.04 LTS starts at the price of 1149 EUR (incl. 19% german VAT!).
