How old are you?

Any number between 18 and 30 will be about right.

Are you from Augsburg?

No, I come from the Karlsruhe area and moved to Augsburg four years ago.
There is unfortunately no moving yellow mailbox here, otherwise it is quite nice.
Without a doubt, I miss the Black Forest and the cleaner air. But Augsburg as a company location is pleasantly central and well connected, a big advantage for me.

How long have you been working with Linux and why?

After finishing school in 2005, I initialy started with Knoppix. Since 2009 and Ubuntu 9.10 I am firmly in. The instability of Windows XP and pure curiosity were the main reasons. There are almost no limits to your own wishes with Linux, in addition it is quite secure and stable. Windows has therefore been largely replaced in my everyday life. For my SCSI film scanner from the 90s, an XP is still in use offline, so this would be one of the few exceptions.

How do you know TUXEDO Computers?

There are not many online stores for Linux merchandise; accordingly, the name was familiar all these years. My training as an IT specialist for system integration was coming to an end and the job ad came up during my research.

Why did you want to work at TUXEDO Computers?

Assembly line work in 08/15 companies - I don't have the time for that. I wanted more in life than just maintaining systems. At TUXEDO Computers I am surrounded by fluffy penguins, I can configure Linux devices, help customers, analyze logs, write manuals, find solutions... Privately I have already written and helped with manuals in internet forums. To make this my profession was a logical step.

My previous training supervisor told me to write several applications to tens of companies in order to secure a future for myself in time. I wrote exactly *one* application - it fit very well, we immediately got along well.

What are you doing in your field?

Put simply, you'll find me in customer support: I answer customer inquiries and help with technical issues. I am additionally the contact person for the coordination of processes from different departments and locations. (Production, repair processing, marketing...).

For some employees, I am the open source equivalent of Siri and Alexa. :-)

What do you particularly like about TUXEDO / the devices?

I really like the serviceability of our equipment - just about everything can be repaired. Thanks to our TUXEDO Control Center and other optimizations on the physical level, our devices have become an ever better overall package, and I am very proud of that. We improve every year: internal tools, marketing, product development - in every aspect without exception. Many small steps, but in retrospect they are always massive. This cannot be taken for granted, especially not in times of a worldwide pandemic.

Teamwork is no empty phrase, it is everyday life here - without exception!

What do you dream about for the (TUXEDO) future?

In fact, I see a new generation of Linux enthusiasts growing up with the upcoming "Steam Deck". But also otherwise the interest and the need for Linux is increasing every year, especially in public institutions. "The year of the Linux desktop" is getting closer and closer. :-)

I don't dream anything for TUXEDO, because dreams don't come true by themselves. However, with the pace, vigor and momentum we have built over the past few years, I see an excellent future for the Linux community and coming our way.

Another personal thing - what are your hobbies?

Privately, I deal a lot with music and photography. Especially analog photography has done it to me very much; so I also develop my 35 mm films myself. I have already been allowed to photograph for some bands and hope to be able to do it more actively again after the pandemic. With a bit of luck I'll soon be on stage myself, even if it's only as a second-rate bass player, contributing abstruse song lyrics and waddling around the stage like a penguin.

Otherwise, the usual IT clichés apply, such as attending conventions to celebrate Japanese pop culture.
