ls (list)

ls is the command list directory. ls command can also be used to display hidden files with the command "-a".

Example: "ls -a (DIRECTORY)"

cd
(change directory)

cd to change directories in the terminal.

Example: "cd DIRECTORY"

pwd
(print working directory)

pwd - Command to display the current directory in the Linux terminal.

Example: "pwd OPTIONS"

mkdir
(make directory)

You can use the mkdir command to create a new directory or folder. You can also use "-p" to get the permissions of the folder.

Example: "mkdir NAME OF DIRECTORIES"

rm (remove)

rm to remove, delete a file from the command line.

Example: "rm FILE/ORDNER"

cp (copy)

To make a copy of a file or folder, use the cp command followed by the location of the file.

Example: "cp SOURCE DESTINATION"

mv (move)

With the mv command you can do many things under Linux, such as move files to different locations or rename files.

Example: "mv SOURCE DESTINATION"

touch

touch is used to create a file. It can be anything from an empty txt file to an empty zip file.

Example: "touch new.txt"

history

This command displays a list of all recently used commands.

cat (concatenate)

You can use the cat command to display the contents of files in the terminal. Type the command, followed by the location of the file you want to view.

Example: "cat/location/of/file"

ps (processes)

Command that can be used to display current running processes directly from the Linux terminal.

Example: "ps OPTIONS

curl

Command to download a file from the Internet using the Linux terminal. Simply type the curl command, followed by the URL of the file, the icon, and the location where you want to store it.

Example: "curl https://www.example.com/file.zip > ~/Downloads/file.zip"

locate

Command to search for files, programs, and folders under Linux. Just type the locate command followed by a search term.

Example: "locate search-term"

whereis

Command that determines the exact position of an element in the command line. For example, you can use the whereis firefox command to find the location of the Firefox binary on your Linux system.

Example: "whereis OPTIONS"

du (disk usage)

Command line used to display the amount of space a directory occupies on your system.

Example: "du DIRECTORY"
