KDE Plasma 6.3.2 available for TUXEDO OS

Around two weeks ago, the developers of KDE released Plasma 6.3, a new version of the desktop environment that we ship with TUXEDO OS. After extensive testing, we have now released KDE Plasma 6.3.2 for TUXEDO OS. The latest version is based on Qt 6.8.2, is supported by the libraries of KDE Frameworks 6.11, and includes updated apps from Gear 24.12.2. New users can find a current ISO image of TUXEDO OS with Plasma 6.3.2 in the download section of our website.

What was new in Plasma 6.3 and 6.3.1?

Plasma 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 were released in the two weeks of our Plasma 6.3 test phase. We skipped 6.3 and 6.3.1 and released 6.3.2 straight away. Here are some of the new features of the two omitted versions:

Plasma 6.3

In addition to bug fixes, the following improvements have been introduced:

Users of HiDPI displays benefit improved fractional scaling
KWin ensures sharper images with stronger alignment to the screen’s pixel grid
Drawing tablets now feature improved calibration, and pen pressure sensitivity can be adjusted.
The colors of the night light function appear more authentic even without the use of ICC profiles
Discover now highlights Flatpaks with permission changes following an update

Plasma 6.3.1

Plasma 6.3.1 also mainly fixes bugs, but there have also been improvements:

KWin received some improvements for Wayland
The XDG Desktop Portal for KDE now reacts faster if a display fails.
Search results for the BBC weather provider in the weather widget are available again
KWin no longer crashes when hot-plugging or switching between HDMI displays under X11.

What’s new in Plasma 6.3.2?

In addition to fixing some issues from the previous version, 6.3.2 expands the KDE screenshot tool Spectacle and improves the performance of the window manager KWin.

Spectacle and KWin

Spectacle now supports animated WebP, which is already supported by all modern browsers. This provides a space-saving alternative to the traditional GIF format.

KWin, KDE’s window manager and compositor, has also received several improvements. The rendering has been enhanced by implementing a more precise timer, which helps reduce frame drops and results in a smoother user interface.

Bugs fixed

Additionally, several bugs have been resolved. Among them, an issue from Plasma 6.2.x was fixed where users ended up with a desktop without a panel or even no desktop at all if they changed the global theme in Plasma via system settings and checked the Desktop and Window Layout option. The tablet mode now works again on all devices with 6.3.2.

You can upgrade to Plasma 6.3.2 on your TUXEDO OS by updating your device either via Discover or in the terminal. For fresh installations, use the latest ISO image or our WebFAI.
