Gaming luck was on Felix's side

In 2022, TUXEDO Computers celebrated its 18th anniversary and had its fans and followers share in the birthday: Four times last year, two TUXEDO birthday fan packages were raffled off, almost bursting with gifts. Shortly before Christmas, Felix was able to get hold of the main prize package with a laptop, giant plush Tux and lots and lots of other merchandise from TUXEDO and partners.
Reason enough to ask the lucky winner what he plans to do with all the stuff.

Felix, thank you very much for your time and here comes the first question: How do you know TUXEDO Computers?

I know TUXEDO from various journals and from some websites, as well as from researching for a decent laptop. At that time I didn't get a TUXEDO, but now I own one because of the competition. :)

How did you find out about the competition?

I subscribed to your newsletter and saw the announcements about the competition.

What was your feeling? Did you already know that you would win? ;) What was your first thought when you received the prize notification?

First, I thought it was fake news. The usual winning messages because someone picked up my email address. But THIS message was real, and I was really happy! It doesn't happen too often that you get lucky. ;-)

What are you most excited about in the package?

In order: the laptop, the Iso bottle and the watch. One of the T-shirts even fits me, the other one is getting tight... And our dog immediately grabbed the Intel blanket. When he comes in wet from outside, the blanket is very popular and afterward he likes to throw it around the place. I gave the big Tux to the children of a colleague at work. They got more out of the huge stuffed animal than I did. :)

We think it's great that you passed on the Tux! What do you want to do with the other things?

I'll probably use most of it. And for things I don't need, I'll think of something else, because I don't have that many keys for pendants and lanyards, for example. I think that friends, acquaintances, and colleagues at work will also be happy about a few goodies.

What do you plan to do with the InfinityBook Pro 13?

The notebook will replace my old Thinkpad X230T. The InfinityBook Pro 13 is much lighter and more compact, making it easier to take anywhere. It's such an all-purpose case! And it's faster than the ThinkPad too.

Would you enter one of our competitions again? We always give away small fan packages on Instagram.

That sounds interesting, and I'd have to check whether the packages are something for me. But statistically, I can't expect to win anymore in the near future. So I'm happy to leave the field to other participants. ;)

A quick word about you: What do you do for a living and what do you do in your spare time?

I work with plants and take care of the genetic characterization of breeding material (molecular markers for rape and field bean mainly). Not in the lab, though; I just handle the orders and prepare results from the labs so that plant breeding can do something with them.
In my spare time, I am enthusiastic about older, still functioning technical products: I now have an asylum for unwanted cameras. This grew out of a small collection of purely mechanical apparatus. And I still use some of them (including the new additions), but the use of film has declined a lot.

Closing words – what did you always want to tell us?

I think your commitment is great (not only as far as competitions are concerned). I've always found it a pity that PCs and laptops are often shipped with Windows without being able to do anything about it. But now that Linux distributions have caught up with Windows in terms of user-friendliness and even overtaken it, Linux has become much more interesting for users.

It's just a pity that there is still some software and hardware that can't be used under Linux without a lot of research and trying out various distributions (not everyone likes to do that). You are the praiseworthy exception because you make sure that your devices are optimized for Linux, run easily, everything works and are designed for the masses. Please keep up the good work!
