StarkStrom Rollout 2025: Welcome Baby Hübner!

We at TUXEDO Computers have been supporting the Formula Student team StarkStrom from Augsburg University of Applied Sciences for years and were on-site again for this year’s rollout. Last Thursday was the day: The team presented its new vehicle for the 2025 season, and we were able to see for ourselves how impressively this project has evolved.

Innovation meets proven partnership

The Formula Student team StarkStrom invited team members, friends, family, university staff, and sponsors to present Baby Hübner – the name of the new racing car – to the public. In addition to university president Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gordon Thomas Rohrmaier, we were also represented as a long-standing partner with our Marketing and PR Manager Annika Litzel.

The presentation was tightly organized: After brief welcoming speeches, technical explanations of the vehicle’s innovations followed. The team was able to reduce the overall weight while simultaneously improving the software and sensor systems for path planning. These systems ensure that the vehicle navigates precisely between the pylons that mark the race track.

TUXEDO Hardware in racing action

This season too, StarkStrom relies on proven TUXEDO technology: As main sponsor, we provide the team with various devices that are used in different areas. We are particularly pleased with this continuity in cooperation, as it shows the team’s trust in our Linux hardware.

The use of our systems in this demanding environment is far more than just sponsoring for us. Formula Student places extreme demands on hardware: vibrations, temperature fluctuations, and the necessity to perform complex calculations for autonomous driving in real-time.

Technology that works under extreme conditions

The demands on hardware in a Formula Student vehicle are considerable. Extreme vibrations, rapid temperature changes, and the necessity to perform complex calculations for vehicle control in real-time put every computer to the test. In a competition where milliseconds decide between success and failure, the hardware must function absolutely reliably.

The team can rely on our devices running stably even under these demanding conditions. This robustness is the result of our consistent focus on professional applications where failures are not an option.

Supporting international ambitions

For the 2025 season, StarkStrom is planning an international campaign: In addition to Formula Student Germany, FS Netherlands in Assen and FS East in Mogyoród, Hungary, are also on the program. These competitions are demanding testing grounds for innovative technologies and new solution approaches.

As a technology partner, we look forward to supporting the team in these international appearances as well. Our hardware will be tested under the most diverse conditions – a valuable experience for our own product development too.

Why we invest in Formula Student

Formula Student may look like a student competition at first glance, but the technologies developed here even find their way into series production. The teams work with the same challenges that also occupy the automotive industry: efficiency, weight optimization, precise sensors, and reliable software.

For TUXEDO Computers, supporting StarkStrom is an investment in the future. Today’s students will be tomorrow’s engineers who decide on the use of technologies in industry. Their experiences with high-quality, reliable hardware during their studies shape their later decisions in professional practice.

Outlook for the season

Baby Hübner now faces its first test of endurance. We are excited about the performance of our hardware under competition conditions and keep our fingers crossed for the entire StarkStrom team for a successful season.

The collaboration with this dedicated team reinforces our mission: to develop powerful, reliable hardware that functions even under the most extreme conditions. StarkStrom impressively demonstrates what becomes possible when innovative hardware meets ambitious engineers.
