Strong as never before: InfinityBook S 15 for Driverless-Team from StarkStrom - TUXEDO Computers

The current season is already underway for the Formula Student team StarkStrom and now that things are getting more concrete, the team has been able to put a new workstation into operation.

Workstation InfinityBook S 15 for Driverless Team

The Driverless team uses the InfinityBook S 15 - Gen7 with 16 GB RAM, an Intel Core i7-1260P as well as 1 TB storage. The laptop is operated with Ubuntu 20.04. In addition, StarkStrom can be pleased about a personalization of the laptop: The logo of the team shines in opaque colors from the display lid and leaves no doubt about the affiliation.

The workstation is primarily used for test drives and for work directly on the car, because the team very often has to connect to the car from outside and check data and processes in the autonomous software stack. Ultimately, the workstation runs all the programs that the Formula Student team needs to communicate with the driverless PC or the car's control unit, as well as to spontaneously read out and evaluate data.

High battery life and lightweight for standing work

"Since our whole stack runs on Ubuntu, the PC that comes from outside must also use Ubuntu as the operating system. Previously, we had 3 workstations in the club, which were actually for the mechanical engineers, the electrical engineers and the computer scientists respectively. In the end, however, the computers were used by all team members, which is why Windows was also running on all of them. We then always had to awkwardly try to do our work with a Linux VM, which was very exhausting and time-consuming," explains Tim Guttzeit, Team Captain & Technical Director Software at StarkStrom.

In addition, "During test drives, the team often has inconvenient access to a power connection directly on the car. Therefore, it was important for us to have a device that offers a particularly long battery life and, in the best case, one that is so light that you can work standing next to the car with the laptop in your hand. Both are possible with the InfinityBook S 15 from TUXEDO."

Infinitely compact - InfinityBook S 15 - Gen7

Thanks to its thin display edges, the 7th generation InfinityBook S 15 is TUXEDO's smallest 15.6-inch notebook, with case dimensions inspired by former 14-inch notebooks. The laptop offers a compact form factor with a nevertheless pleasantly large screen. The Intel Core i5-1240P or Core i7-1260P provide for a high work performance, which even at strong performance only registers a maximum power consumption of 28 watts. Stellaris 15 as a car PC

Furthermore, the team relies on a Stellaris 15 - Gen4 from TUXEDO as the new computer for the autonomous system. Thanks to the upgrade of the components to an NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti graphics card and an AMD Ryzen 9 processor, the PC is suitable for the increasingly demanding software. In addition, the team has the opportunity to save significantly on installation space by using its own housing.

A desktop PC will soon follow to enrich the StarkStrom team, which will then be used for various simulations.
