TUXEDO Sirius 16
Gen2: Refresh for our AMD Linux gaming notebook

After Sirius 16 - Gen1 hit the market in November 2023 as the very first full AMD Linux gaming notebook, the portable computer named after the brightest binary star system in the night sky is now getting with the Sirius 16 - Gen2 a refresh featuring AMD’s Ryzen 7 8845HS.

Ryzen 7 8845HS: Great power efficiency and high performance

Thanks to its modern manufacturing process in 4 nm, the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS (8 cores | 16 threads) can boast with a great energy efficiency, which provides performance levels on par with Intel’s new Core Ultra 7 155H.

In combination with the budget-friendly price and excellent low-load power draw for up to 10 hours of battery life (80Wh; internally screwed), the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS qualifies as a great all-rounder for work & play.

While AMD specifies the APU with a standard TDP of up to 54 watts, the Sirius 16 pushes it to up to 80 watts under CPU-only load. When the Radeon RX 7600M XT is utilized at the same time (“cross loading”), the TDP is limited to 54 watts in order to shift more cooling capacity to the AMD dGPU while still providing far more than enough CPU performance for gaming.

Rare yet fast graphics star: AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT

Still a novelty in TUXEDO’s product line as well as in the Linux cosmos in general is the graphics processor: As rare as dedicated AMD graphics cards can be found in laptops, the TUXEDO Sirius 16 is truely unique as the only Linux AMD gaming notebook on the market.

AMD’s second fastest mobile GPU, the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT, is based on the RDNA 3 architecture, has 32 computing units with a clock speed of up to 2300 MHz and 8 GB GDDR6 graphics memory. Depending on the simultaneous CPU load, the power consumption lies between 100 and 120 watts.

In terms of performance, the Radeon RX 7600M XT is on par with NVIDIA’s popular mainstream GPU GeForce RTX 4060, which is specified with a similar TGP of 115 watts and equally equipped with 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM.

All-aluminum build with RGB lighting

t’s not just the inner values that matter: According to this concept, the 22 mm slim 16.1-inch laptop is dressed in a robust and haptically appealing all-aluminum chassis that weighs 2.3 kg, which is quite a bit below average for a full-metal notebook of this size and performance class. The gunmetal grey color and the slightly rough metal surfaces make the enclosure mostly insensitive to fingerprints.

In terms of design, the Sirius 16 flies in its own orbit: the angular, futuristic appearance is aimed at Linux gamers who still value a discreet and sleek gamer look. The metal arc hinges are not only eye-catching, but also keep the display lid firmly in place.

For RGB ambient lighting, the Sirius 16 comes with a color-adjustable light bar on the front edge as well as a per-key RGB-backlit keyboard, which features pleasantly colorful lighting and numerous animations.

High-resolution 16.1-inch display with 100% sRGB and 165 Hz

For Linux gaming in razor-sharp image quality on a pleasantly large screen between standard formats, llike 15.6 and 17.3-inch, the TUXEDO Sirius 16 is equipped with a 16.1-inch display in WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels).

Combined with full coverage of the sRGB color gamut, the panel is also suitable for semi-professional photo editing and multimedia use, while the refresh rate of 165 Hz ensures fast reactions and ultra-smooth animations even in fast, competitive games.

Up to 96 GB RAM, USB 4.0 and HDMI 2.1

If desired, TUXEDO Sirius 16 comes with particularly large, non-binary DDR5-5600 RAM for a total capacity of up to 2x 48 GB.

Even (much) more data space is available for mass storage: Two easily accessible M.2 slots can be configured with up to 2x 4 terabyte SSDs with a fast PCIe 4.0 connection.

In terms of connectivity, the Sirius 16 features 2x full-featured USB-C (1x USB 4.0 Gen3x2 (40 Gbps), 1x USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps)), 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps each), HDMI 2.1 and RJ45 LAN (1 Gbps). A webcam shutter and a fingerprint sensor (Windows only) are also on board to secure privacy.
