This Week in TUXEDO OS #37-2024

Hello TUXEDO fans and open source enthusiasts!

This week, the TUXEDO developers have focused on the integration of kernel 6.11. This update optimizes the efficiency in sleep mode of the CPU of devices with Intel Core 14000HX processors and thus ensures longer battery life under low load, such as in office operation.

Updates TUXEDO OS

Kernel 6.11

TUXEDO OS is now shipping with kernel 6.11, which offers significant efficiency improvements in CPU sleep mode. Among other things, these improvements contribute to an extended battery life for devices with Intel Core 14000HX processors, such as the Stellaris Slim Gen6 or Stellaris 17 Gen6 and other devices with this CPU.

A patch in Kernel 6.11 also enables a significant increase in the performance of Meteor Lake notebook processors. According to Intel benchmarks, performance can be increased by up to 72% and energy consumption during video playback can be reduced by up to 52%. These improvements are the result of optimized coordination between the processor and operating system, which enables a better balance between energy efficiency and performance.

Chromium 128.0.6613.137

According to the developers, five vulnerabilities have been fixed, four of which have been classified as “high” severity. For security reasons, not all details have been published yet; this is usually only done once the majority of users have carried out the update.

What else has happened?

VirtualBox 7.1

The latest version of VirtualBox 7.1 now offers support for clipboard sharing under Wayland for Linux hosts and guests. In addition, the “Shared Clipboard” function has been expanded to include initial support for copying files between Linux and Windows hosts and guests. Due to the numerous new features and the redesign of the user interface into an expert and a basic mode, we need a little more time to package the new version.
