Tomte 2.33.0 helps with Plasma 6 Black Screen

We released a new version of our configuration service Tomte a few days ago. It now has the version number 2.33.0.

This version brings a new module called text-boot to the users, which implements the correction of a bug when switching to TUXEDO OS 3 and Plasma 6. In this respect, this version is only installed on TUXEDO OS.

Black screen

Some users reported a black screen at system startup after updating to Plasma 6. To make it easier for these users to recover their installation after the Plasma 6 upgrade, Tomte 2.33.0 can deactivate the graphical boot splash and switch to text-only mode for the boot process. This means that users no longer have to intervene manually in the GRUB configuration to replace the splash parameter with nosplash.

Important to know

As it only affects a few users, the function only works at the user’s request and not automatically! This ensures that functioning systems do not suddenly boot in text mode.

Procedure

  1. boot into Recovery Mode.

  2. perform updates

  3. start TUXEDO Control Center

  4. under Settings -> Tomte, first activate the text-boot module and then install it.

  5. restart

In the terminal

Alternatively, this can also be done via the terminal:

  1. sudo tomte unblock text-boot

  2. sudo tomte configure text-boot
