Welcome on Board @TUXEDO
Part 29

TUXEDO Computers expands its staff and introduces its team

Cristina – development

How old are you?

When the interview goes online, I'll be 27 :)

Are you from Augsburg?

I was born in Augsburg, but I live in Kaufbeuren at the moment. However, I am studying at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and would like to move back here as soon as possible.

How long have you been working with Linux and why?

The first time I came in contact with Linux was when I was maybe 8 years old. I can't remember exactly, but it must have been openSUSE. My father was and is enthusiastic about Linux and not very positive about other operating systems. I really started working with Linux at my previous job as a student trainee two or three years ago. Before that I was working with Linux as a hobby and found it very exciting.

How do you know TUXEDO Computers?

I got to know TUXEDO Computers by chance through the LUGA (Linux User Group Augsburg).

Why did you want to work at TUXEDO Computers?

I like the philosophy behind Open Source and my impression is that TUXEDO has internalized it well - in its actions and in its employees.

What do you do in your field?

I work as a software developer and take care of TUXEDO's own software, like the WebFAI Creator and parts of the TUXEDO Control Center. In the future I hope to work on more hardware related projects and also work on the Linux kernel. Let's see what the future brings.

What do you particularly like about TUXEDO / the devices?

As far as the TXUEDO devices are concerned, I don't have much contact with them yet, since I mainly take care of the general software. But what I have noticed very positively so far is that our devices are not just designed to make a quick buck, but are tested thoroughly and extensively so that everything works in the end. We have a high demand for quality.

What I like most about the company itself is the working atmosphere, which has always been consistently positive, from the cleaning crew to the CEO. Even as a student trainee, I'm not a "coffee hound" (as you might often hear), but I have the right to express my opinion on projects, and I'm listened to and encouraged to express my opinion as well.

As a woman in IT, I would also like to positively emphasize that I always feel respected here, which unfortunately is not a matter of course in many industries and companies.

I can simply be myself here and live out my individuality instead of having to adapt to rigid company structures. My ADHD/autism are also not a problem, which unfortunately is still far from being a matter of course.

What do you dream for the (TUXEDO) future?

I wish for the future that I can contribute to push Linux and Open-Source.

Actually, I also have the dream to found my own company, of course with a strong FOSS connection and maybe more in the direction of open hardware. On the other hand, I really like it here and I definitely don't want to leave! So anything where I can work together with TUXEDO is highly welcome. :)

Something more personal - what are your hobbies?

In typical ADHD fashion, I have what feels like two million hobbies: from light motorcycle repairs, to needlework and 3D printing, to furniture making, I've actually done it all.

The hobbies that have stuck with me the most, however, are of course video games and knitting/crocheting (the latter I actually do every day and you'll never see me leave the house without knitting projects).

As soon as the university gives me more free time again, I want to get more involved with electronics and microcontroller programming. The goal is to have a robot army and world domination.... ;) but I think I'll start with taking care of my ottoDIY toys and then continue with the plan to build my own vacuum cleaner robot. That's how the modern housewife does it :D
