Welcome on Board @TUXEDO
Part 30

TUXEDO Computers expands its staff and introduces its team.

Daniel – development

How old are you?

I am 24 years old.

Are you from Augsburg?

Yes, I was born here and have actually always lived in Augsburg.

How long have you been working with Linux and why?

Hard to say, maybe since three or four years. I have tried Linux-based systems out of my own interest. This includes, for example, compiling and trying out software. I didn't suddenly start using Linux, but I slowly but surely moved to Linux. Nowadays, I use Linux on my desktop computer primarily for data processing, compilation and deep learning. Linux requires fewer resources than Windows and such workloads are sometimes a lot more performant under Linux. In addition, compilation is also usually easier and more convenient. Python and C compilers are pre-installed. And on my laptop, I also like to use Linux distributions because the OS runs smoother than Windows. Otherwise, I like Linux-based systems because you can typically install packages easily with a command, and you don't have to download EXE files.

How do you know TUXEDO Computers?

To be honest, I found the ad online by chance in the webshop. So I applied for it. Classic, then.

Why did you want to work at TUXEDO Computers?

The company sounded interesting and during the interview and the tour I had the impression of a good working atmosphere (which was confirmed). In addition, my commute is short, my job has to do with Linux, my skills fit and I can also learn interesting things. What more could you want?

What do you do in your field?

I am involved in programming the TUXEDO Control Center. We also want to build in a general camera control to adjust the brightness and sharpness etc. so that you can personalize the camera video a bit. That would be useful for meetings.

What do you particularly like about TUXEDO / the devices?

It runs Linux. :D The laptops are also well-equipped in terms of hardware. I particularly like the Super Tux key with the Crazy Tux on it.

What do you dream for the (TUXEDO) future?

I also work with Linux in my private life. I'm looking forward to learning more tricks and trying out other interesting possibilities that will help me with Linux.

Something more personal - what are your hobbies?

I like tinkering with artificial intelligence. This subject area primarily uses Python. Interesting resources would be, for example, https://paperswithcode.com/ or https://arxiv.org/. However, it gets very complicated and highly mathematical relatively quickly, so I don't understand everything either. But I like digging around in code to use or modify it.
