Welcome on Board @TUXEDO
Part 34

The open source universe has been expanding steadily for years. This not only drives the software community further and further, but also ensures growth at TUXEDO Computers. We are continuously expanding our workforce: Whether in support, development and server administration, or in product management and marketing.

At TUXEDO Computers, many Linux and Open Source enthusiasts find a professional home. Maybe there is a suitable position for you, too? Don’t worry: You don’t have to have Linux-positive blood in your veins. We won’t bite, even if you prefer apples or windows. In the following, we would like to give one of our newest team members the opportunity to introduce him- or herself a little.

Olaf - Support

How old are you?

I am 43.

Are you from Augsburg?

No, I was born in a country that fortunately no longer exists. I spent most of my life in Nuremberg until I moved to Augsburg in October 2023.

How long have you been working with Linux and why?

I first encountered Linux in the year 2000. Back then, I bought SUSE Linux in a bookshop. There was no Internet yet. At least not in its current form. But Linux didn’t catch on with me back then. And it wasn’t until 2021 that I was able to completely do without Windows. So I haven’t actually been working with Linux for that long.

How do you know TUXEDO?

I did some research on the Internet. At the time, I was looking for a notebook that I could more or less configure myself and decided in favour of a TUXEDO model: I still use my Polaris 17 - Gen3 as my main computer. In the meantime, my private TUXEDO family has grown by another member - a small Pulse 14 - Gen3.

Why did you want to work here?

Because I enjoy Linux and want to expand my knowledge in this area. Because TUXEDO is a unique company and because I want to contribute to the further development of Linux.

What do you do in your field?

I work as a “notebook doctor”.  I work in technical support and help our customers when they have questions. I respond to both ailments and emergency calls. I see patients, look at their case, diagnose and prescribe treatments and prescriptions. And if the treatment doesn’t work, I send them to the operating theatre, although I try to avoid this as much as possible.

What do you particularly like about TUXEDO / the devices?

The large selection and freedom of choice. TUXEDO offers a wide range of products and everyone will find something for themselves. Whether AMD, Intel or Nvidia, there is something for everyone. What’s more, our devices are configurable, upgradable and maintainable. What more could you want?

What do you dream of for the (TUXEDO) future?

Just carry on as before. To develop new, great products of high quality so that more people feel attracted to them and are satisfied with them. The market share of Linux-based operating systems is growing and we are making our contribution to this. And I hope it stays that way. At the same time, it is important that we remain a friendly and fair company - but I have no doubts about that.

Something else personal - what are your hobbies?

I love photography. I collect old analogue cameras and still have professional lighting and digital photography equipment from my earlier days. However, most of my free time is spent with my little niece. I’m trying to introduce her to Linux. By now she is familiar with terms like GRUB, initramfs or TUXEDO. :D
