Forget everything you’ve learned about Linux

Experienced Linux users who have been working with the free operating system for a long time know about many battles fought to install Linux on their computers. Kernels had to be configured and then compiled for hours so that the system would integrate the existing hardware. Forums and documentation had to be browsed until even unruly hardware could be made to work.

These times are long gone, the Linux kernel supports a vast amount of devices, so that the big Linux distributions like Ubuntu, Debian, OpenSuse, Fedora work smoothly right after installation without any rework. Especially on mobile computers, however, there is often still room for improvement. Proprietary drivers get the maximum performance out of the graphics card, tools like TLP optimize battery life, ensure a cooler CPU and thus a lower noise level. And finally, there are tons of tips on the net for tuning a Linux installation.

Forget everything you’ve learned about Linux

Here, too, old Linux whizzes usually have their own personal tricks that they swear by. We at TUXEDO are among these old hands, who have been optimally adapting Linux to the systems we sell for over 18 years. Our TUXEDO OS is already configured at the factory so that it needs no further optimization. Unpack, plug in and get started. Forget what you have learned so far about Linux: By this we mean especially the often spread prejudices as well as various Linux tricks.

This means for you as a beginner:

  • We take care of the installation of Linux and all important adjustments to the hardware of our TUXEDO devices. Your TUXEDO Book is ready to go from the first moment.
  • All important drivers, for example for an NVIDIA graphics card integrated into the device, are installed ex factory and are constantly updated automatically by the system.
  • Tools for optimizing computing power and battery life are already included in TUXEDO OS and equipped with proven profiles.
  • If you ever get stuck, don’t worry: Our support is available to answer any questions you may have about your TUXEDO computer. And you will also find a constantly growing community online.

This means for you as a Linux expert:

  • TUXEDO OS does not stand in your way if you want to use your own drivers, tools or tweaks. All our optimizations can be deactivated. But always test our solutions before you change the system.
  • Of course, all common Linux distributions work on your TUXEDO computer. We regularly test Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE and a number of offshoots of these distributions.
  • With the help of our TUXEDO WebFAI you can install a number of distributions tested by us or restore your system to its factory default state with just a few clicks.

TUXEDO OS

TUXEDO OS is a versatile operating system that handles everyday life effortlessly. With a variety of useful apps for different applications and hundreds of other tested programs available for download via the integrated app store, users can surf the web, write emails, create presentations, edit photos and play games to pass the time.

Our operating system is based on the “Plasma” desktop environment developed by the KDE developer community. It features seamless integration of all necessary and tested hardware drivers, including the powerful NVIDIA graphics driver. This ensures flawless functionality on both TUXEDO computers and various third-party hardware configurations without the need for additional driver installations.

To support the further development of the KDE desktop environment as well as Linux and the world of free software in general, we provide financial and logistical help as Patron of KDE, for example, and sponsor numerous other projects as well. In addition, we make our premises available for developer meetings such as the KDE Plasma Sprint 2023. The Linux User Group Augsburg e.V. also meets regularly in our offices.

TUXEDO WebFAI

With the help of our Fully Automated Installation (FAI for short), you can set up a Linux installation for your TUXEDO device in a completely automated way, so that it is just as functional as the installations in our own production at TUXEDO Computers. This gives you a precise and reliable configuration, without manual intervention or error sources.

With our WebFAI TUXEDO WebFAI we also always provide you with the latest Linux operating system versions tested by us directly from our servers. You have the possibility to choose from all Linux distributions, which are also available in our online store configurator. Depending on the distribution, you can choose from different desktop interfaces to suit your individual preferences.

TUXEDO Control Center

The TUXEDO Control Center performs a number of tasks necessary for the optimal operation of our TUXEDO books and computers. The program regulates the performance of the CPU and graphics card and controls the fans. This allows you to optimize the system for maximum performance, longest battery life or silent operation with just a few clicks – if desired, automatically when switching between battery and mains operation.

Furthermore, you can use the TUXEDO Control Center to set the keyboard’s illumination (if available on your device), control the webcam’s color values and parameters, or regulate how the charging electronics should behave. For example, you have the option to deactivate the recharging of the battery in mains operation depending on the charge state and thus maximize the battery life as well as the life of your TUXEDO notebook.

TUXEDO Tomte

TUXEDO Tomte is a configuration service that automatically analyses the device, checks missing drivers or required packages and helps users avoid tedious troubleshooting and problem solving. The small program integrates appropriate solutions, such as Grub entries or other configurations like switching to TUXEDO mirrors. Only the package sources are adapted, while the rest of the system remains untouched. These adjustments are necessary to install a kernel checked by TUXEDO as well as to provide suitable drivers.

At startup Tomte checks whether drivers or similar components are missing. Here the program compares a list of about 1000 repositories. The small program recognizes by itself whether the system needs adjustments or not. This helps the user considerably, as the program automatically carries out solutions and minor repairs. As soon as the tasks are done, Tomte exits automatically. You have full control over how the solutions are implemented. When they are no longer needed, Tomte removes them automatically.
