    The 2nd generation TUXEDO Polaris 15 comes with many improvements and takes the affordable Linux gaming notebook to the next level:

    In addition to the new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, a high-resolution WQHD display option with 2560 x 1440 pixels and a very fast 165 Hz refresh rate is now available, providing a super crisp display for gaming and content creation.

    On the CPU side, our customers still have the choice of their preferred manufacturer:
    Intel Core i7-10870H or AMD Ryzen 7 4800H.

    GeForce RTX 3060 with
    maximum performance

    For a significant plus in graphics performance, the TUXEDO Polaris 15 - Gen2 comes with  NVIDIA's latest "Ampere" GPU generation in the form of the GeForce RTX 3060.

    Thanks to the high TGP (Total Graphics Power) rating of 115 watts, the Polaris 15 provides the maxium tier version of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060. Using NVIDIA's Dynamic Boost technology, the power consumption can even be increased to up to 130 watts in certain workload situations for best possible graphics performance.

      In combination with the 6 GB GDDR6 VRAM, the mobile high-end GPU offers a very good price-performance ratio and enough reserves for high-resolution gaming on the razor-sharp WQHD display.

     

    Better performance. Better cooling.

    In order to constantly ensure highest graphics performance, the TUXEDO Polaris 15's cooling system has been upgraded while the chassis' height has been extended by 3 mm.

    This results in an improved balance of almost unchanged high portability and better cooling performance: With a height of 23 mm and a weight of only around 2 kg, the Polaris 15 is still a fairly thin and light gaming notebook and invests the slightly increased case volume in bigger heatsinks and fans.

    The Polaris 15 - Gen2's partly redesigned chassis also shows detail improvements compared to the predecessor: In response to many customer requests the webcam's position has been changed from below the screen to the more ergonomical place above the display.

    What remains unchanged though, is the discreet and elegant design of the Polaris 15's black aluminum chassis, which also allows using the Linux gaming notebook in the office, meeting room or lecture hall.

    Take a look for yourself!

    In the new generation, the TUXEDO Polaris 15 provides two different display options to choose from: In addition to a Full HD IPS display with up to 240 Hz refresh rate, a WQHD screen with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a frame rate of 165 Hz is now also available.

    The significantly sharper image of the new WQHD display shows its strengths especially in everyday use: Text, high-resolution images or graphics look very sharp-edged and high in detail, texts are comfortably readable even in small font sizes without straining the eyes.

    The difference is also noticeable in games but not quite as big. So the decision whether WQHD or Full HD is up to personal preference: While the GeForce RTX 3060 has enough reserves for high-resolution gaming, 1080p gamers benefit from maximum frame rates to fully take advantage of the display's high refresh rate.

     

    AMD vs Intel: The choice is up to you!

    On TUXEDO Polaris 15 and Polaris 17, you get the choice between high-end mobile processors from Intel and AMD.

    Intel's Core i7-10870H (8 cores, 16 threads) is a solid and powerful all-rounder that is still a very good choice especially for gaming thanks to its high single-core clock speeds, but it clearly doesn't run out of stamina in demanding productive tasks either.

    AMD's counterpart, the Ryzen 7 4800H, also comes with 8 cores and a maximum clock speed of 4.2 GHz. The impressive performance-per-watt ratio of the Ryzen 7 4800H makes this processor the best choice for content creators looking for the best performance for video or 3D rendering or other multicore-heavy workloads.

    Both the Intel Core i7-10870H and AMD Ryzen 7 4800H also come with integrated, power-saving iGPUs that automatically kick in instead of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 during less demanding everyday tasks, for increasing battery life.

     

    Up to 7 hours of battery life

    Speaking of battery life: The TUXEDO Polaris 15 features an internally screwed 62 Wh lithium-polymer battery that enables the Linux gaming laptop to run for up to 7 hours (idle) away from the power socket.

    Under more realistic working conditions with WiFi on, office usage and medium display brightness (~150 nits), around 6 hours can be reached until the Polaris 15 finally gets thirsty for the 180 watts power supply again.

     

    USB-C with DisplayPort and SD card reader

    For multi-monitor use, the new TUXEDO Polaris 15 is equipped with HDMI 2.1 as well as with an USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port with DisplayPort 1.4 support.

    Three additional USB ports (2x USB-A 3.2 Gen1, 1x USB-A 2.0) as well as an SD memory card reader are on board for data exchange. The RJ45 LAN port as well as microphone input and headphone output alongside the obligatory Kensington Lock round off the TUXEDO Polaris 15's connectivity setup.

    We're testing battery time always in idle mode, at minimal display brightness, with keyboard backlight deactivated, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth disabled and without any further connected devices (USB, LAN, HDMI, VGA etc. unplugged!). We always test with integrated graphics when a dedicated and integrated graphics chip is installed.
    This way you get an information of maximal possible battery life. Starting from this, you can manage your individual battery life depending on your demands and to influence it, e.g. is keyboard backlight unnecessary during daylight. Bluetooth is also only needed to be turned on, if there's a Bluetooth device connected. Full display brightness as well is hardly always necessary.

    Cooling System & Fan

    Temperature controlled fan
    At low system workload, there is less heat emerging. The cooling system fans can spin accordingly slow or even turn themselves off completely. Depending on the chassis, cooling system and CPU and GPU, high to very high fan noise (air swooshing) is produced under full load. Thinner notebooks normally tend to get louder due to less cooling capacity.

    With the TUXEDO Control Center you are able to control the performance and the behavior of the fans by yourself. This means that you get the ability to make your device as quiet as possible. By heavily reducing the performance you are able to set the device almost passive cooled, without any fan noise most of the time!

    Operating systems

    We install Ubuntu and TUXEDO OS (based on Ubuntu with KDE Plasma Desktop) in the latest 64-bit version with long term support.

    With our fully automatic installation WebFAI you can easily perform a Linux installation exactly as we at TUXEDO Computers do it in our production! You can choose from all distributions that we also offer in our configurator. Depending on the distribution, you have the choice between different desktop interfaces. More backgrounds and a video demo as well as detailed instructions can be found here.

     

    For "self-installers" and all who are interested, we have set up a database with downloads, instructions, tips & tricks and offer Tomte, a tool that automatically makes our adjustments under Ubuntu, elementary OS and Linux Mint:

     

     

    Encrypted Installation

    On request, we install your Linux system completely encrypted. The pre-installation as dual boot with Windows is technically not possible.

    Windows on request

    If you don't want or can't do without Windows, we install the desired Windows version next to Linux or alone. Please understand that a dual-boot installation can take 1-2 working days longer, even though the process is fully automatic. Please also note that we provide you with a correct Windows license incl. license sticker and installation DVD!

     

    Windows Drivers

    The corresponding Windows drivers are already included as standard with every device, regardless of whether it is with or without Windows or operating system installation. Alternatively, you are free to download all Windows-Drivers from here.

     

    UEFI firmware

    With all our notebooks, you have the possibility to protect your privacy already on firmware level using the UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).

     

    For this purpose, the following functions can be completely deactivated:

    • On Intel CPUs: Intel Management Engine (IntelME)
    • Webcam
    • On Intel CPUs: Audio (Microphone & Sound)
    • WLAN & Bluetooth

     

    In addition, our Premium UEFI firmware allows chipset-specific settings and definitions for hardware components in order to run adjust the device optimally to your use case.

     

    Please note: All notebooks built in 2021 and later do not support switching the UEFI firmware to the outdated BIOS firmware standard.

    All devices have a maintenance-friendly design. Furthermore the battery is replaceable if not stated differently. Of course, even after expiration of your warranty period, we're offering replacement parts and service for many years!
