CPU workstation with quiet cooling, WQHD display, 91 Wh battery and Full-Featured-USB-C
"Qui(e)te powerful?" - no, that's not a typo: The TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 combines high performance with low fan noise like no other TUXEDO before for a powerful yet non-disturbing, quiet working experience.
To achieve this, the Linux workstation on the one hand features a performance-optimized Ryzen 7 5700U, which TUXEDO configures with 35 watts and therefore far above AMD's official specification, and on the other hand it relies on a - in this performance class - above-average dual-fan-cooling solution.
Equally above-average is the new WQHD display: With 2560 x 1440 pixels, a brightness of around 350 nits and a 165 Hz refresh rate, we continue the trend of high-resolution screens in our TUXEDO notebooks.
A small yet many times requested improvement concerns the USB-C port, which now also supports DisplayPort 1.4, and thus allows connecting up to 3 external monitors (via MST adapter).
From its very popular predecessor, the Pulse 15 - Gen2 inherits the very thin and light magnesium chassis and the huge 91 Wh battery for up to 18 hours of runtime.
Ultra-portable magnesium chassis
Weighing in at just 1.5 kg and with ultra-portable dimensions of 356.4 x 233.73 x 16.8 mm, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 is the ideal mobile computer for users who travel a lot and transport their thin powerhouse very frequently.
The very lightweight and compact design is due to the sturdy magnesium case, which gives the powerful AMD-only Linux notebook an elegant appearance, while the slightly rough, metallic feel gives it a solid touch and does not magically attract fingerprints.
The white backlit keyboard has short key travels due to the low-profile chassis design, yet a well-defined pressure point and large key caps for a save typing experience and high typing speeds. Good news for our ANSI fans: In a small quantity, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 is also available with ANSI keyboard!
The generously sized 117 x 71 mm Precision Clickpad with integrated mouse buttons comes into play for reliable, accurate navigation in mobile use.
Fast high resolution WQHD screen
The TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 continues our trend to more high-resolution screens with its new 15.6-inch WQHD display with 2560 x 1440 pixels, on which you will no longer see any pixels from a normal viewing distance, but only a pleasantly sharp image on your display.
The new 1440p display's significantly sharper resolution compared to Full HD shows its strengths especially in everyday use: Fonts, high-resolution photos or graphics look very sharp-edged and rich in detail; texts are comfortably legible even in small font sizes without straining the eyes.
In combination with the nearly full sRGB color gamut, the finer, more detailed image of the WQHD display also offers advantages for content creators and their use of creative software, such as for video or image editing.
Efficiency and performance:
AMD Ryzen 7 with 8 cores and 35 watts
Instead of a more energy-hungry Ryzen-H-processor with up to 54 watts, TUXEDO this time goes for an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U, which however in the Pulse 15 - Gen2 is tweaked for the optimal balance of performance and efficiency:
While AMD officially specifies the Ryzen 7 5700U at only 10 to 25 watts, the Pulse 15 - Gen2 pushes the sustained power limit to 35 watts to provide powerusers with strong CPU performance at relatively low power consumption!
Compared to its AMD Ryzen 7 4800H-54-watts-equipped predecessor, the Pulse 15 - Gen2's Ryzen 7 5700U-35W comes with significantly improved power efficiency, delivering on-par-performance with around 35% less power consumption!
The 8 CPU cores of the Ryzen 7 5700U process up to 16 threads simultaneously for a great multi-core performance thanks to AMD's Simultaneous Multithreading and perform with a maximum clock rate of up to 4.3 GHz (single core).
The AMD APU is also responsible for graphics rendering and display output: The integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 offers a slightly increased graphics performance compared to the predecessor with 8 graphics cores that are clocked with up to 1900 MHz (Pulse 15 - Gen1: 7 graphics cores | max. 1600 MHz).
Quiet and cool due to dual-fan-cooling
High-load video editing in the living room, light gaming on the couch or rendering in the office? No problem and no more annoyed looks, because even under full load the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 never gets annoyingly loud or uncomfortably hot.
Despite the much more power-saving processor with a power limit of 35 watts, TUXEDO explicitly insisted on integrating the same dual-fan cooling like on the predecessor model with its 54-watts-CPU to the hardware manufacturer!
While most notebooks with energy-saving U-processors skimp on cooling with only one fan with a single heat pipe, which leads to higher fan noise levels, higher temperatures or throttled performance under load, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 is exclusively equipped with 2 fans and 2 heat pipes!
The advantage? Cool surface temperatures and at the same time a pleasantly discreet fan noise even under full load!
Thermal throttling, as with many competitor models with weaker 1-fan cooling, is thus also not an issue, so the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2 serves you constantly with full performance when needed!
91 Wh battery for up to 18 hours of runtime
The TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen2's excellent mobility factor is not least largely due to its huge 91 Wh battery, which provides the Linux notebook with runtimes of up to 18 hours (idle mode with minimum display brightness).
In practical use with medium display brightness and 1080p video streaming runtimes of up to 10 hours can be expected.
Another advantage of the more power-saving processor is the now even smaller and lighter 65 watts power supply, which - should a workday go on longer - is hardly noticeable in the laptop bag. Alternatively, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 also supports charging via USB-C aka Power Delivery DC-In (20 V / 3,25A).
USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 and 2x M.2-SSDs
One feature missed by many customers of the TUXEDO Pulse 15 - Gen1 was the lack of DisplayPort 1.4 via the USB-C port to connect more than one external monitor.
Fortunately generation 2 of the TUXEDO Pulse 15 remedies this limitation and allows connecting up to 3 screens (via MST adapter) thanks to USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0.
Furthermore, the TUXEDO Pulse 15 integrates 3 USB-A ports (2x USB 3.2 Gen2, 1x USB 2.0), RJ45 LAN and a micro SD card reader in addition to the aforementioned USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port.
Another small but nice improvement can be found under the Linux laptop's magnesium hood: Besides the 2x upgradeable RAM slots for up to 64 GB DDR4 3200 MHz system memory, there are now also 2x M.2 2280 SSD slots (only NVMe) for up to 4 terabytes of fast mass storage.
